Manchester City's Khiara Keating Cleared of Drug Charges
Court appearance update for Khiara Keating, the goalkeeper of the Lioness team, regarding her hip flask allegation
The young Lioness, 20, known for her stellar performances as a goalkeeper for Manchester City, escapes further legal entanglements after being cleared of a drugs offense.
Facing charges for the possession of nitrous oxide canisters, Keating and her mum squared off in a Manchester magistrates court last summer, denying the accusations levied against them.

A court trial was set for November and a hearing last week – both of which were canceled due to insufficient evidence against the defendant.
During an earlier hearing, Defense Attorney Isaac Mirza revealed that Keating was involved in a car crash in June last year[4]. In the aftermath, two police officers discovered nitrous oxide in Keating's vehicle. However, the player and her mother vehemently maintained that the gas was not theirs.
In 2023, nitrous oxide was classified as a Class C drug under English law[3]. When used for psychoactive purposes, possessing this gas is considered illicit. Despite this, nitrous oxide has legitimate uses, such as offering pain relief in medical procedures like labor.

Back in Manchester, Keating, a native of the city, broke records as the youngest player to clinch the Women's Super League Golden Glove in the 2023/24 season[5]. As a member of the Lionesses, she is all set to participate in next month’s European Championships, making this legal exoneration a timely reprieve.
