Couple under investigation for social fraud: continued payment of child support despite lack of legal obligation
In Schoenebeck, Saxony-Anhalt, 22-year-olds Lisa and Leon are on a mission to improve their lives and regain custody of their three-year-old daughter, Emma. The young couple, who have been living with Lisa's family for almost four years, have been faced with numerous challenges on their journey.
Lisa and Leon have been eager to move out and take their daughter back since March. However, Leon has not been contributing to household chores, a fact that concerns Lisa's family. In addition, the family worries about Leon's behavior when they move in together. Lisa often seeks comfort from her parents, Markus (49) and Franzi (40), after disagreements with Leon. Franzi expresses disapproval of Leon, stating he is lazy and spends most of his time playing video games.
The couple's quest for a new apartment has been ongoing for eight weeks, with no success yet. They have been waiting for a news on their application. A visit of Lisa and Leon to a job fair was covered by RTL, but Leon's indifference towards work is a concern. He questions the necessity of work, stating "Why should I bother to stand somewhere and do something?"
Leon's lack of effort in job hunting is evident in his frustration with answering machines during his calls. The payments for their new home's lease have been paid by the office since March, but the apartment lacks basic equipment. This has added to Leon's growing frustration, as he complains about having to clean up the mess, run around everywhere, and make a plan so he doesn't have to go to jail.
The young couple lost custody of Emma because they were deemed immature by the youth welfare office. Leon is angry because this isn't the first time Lisa has ignored calls and letters from the office. Despite the setbacks, both Lisa and Leon are determined to secure a new apartment and education to improve their chances of regaining guardianship of their daughter.
The employer offering Leon and Lisa an apprenticeship to improve their chances is the company K+S. The future is uncertain, but the young couple remains hopeful and resilient in their quest to rebuild their family.
