Couple Apprehended for Homicide and Disposal of Spouse's Remains in a Drain in Delhi: Police Report
In a shocking turn of events, Delhi Police have arrested a woman and her boyfriend for the murder of Pritam Prakash, which occurred in July 2024. The accused, Soniya (34) and Rohit (28), are residents of Alipur in Delhi and Sonipat respectively.
The investigation began when Pritam, a known history-sheeter with over ten cases registered against him, failed to return home from a visit to Soniya's sister's house in Sonipat's Gannaur. On that fateful day, Pritam came to pick up Soniya but left after an argument.
The case remained unsolved until Delhi Police connected the dots nearly a year later. The police discovered that Soniya conspired with Rohit to murder her husband. Unable to carry out the murder herself, and after Rohit demanded too much money, Soniya approached her brother-in-law Vijay and offered him Rs 1 lakh to kill Pritam.
Vijay, who is on the run, murdered Pritam while everyone was asleep and disposed of the body in a drain near Agwanpur village. Vijay even sent Soniya photos and videos of the corpse as proof, later demanding money in installments, part of which she paid.
The police have recovered an unidentified male body, but were unable to identify it. DNA samples preserved during the Haryana post-mortem will be used to identify the body.
Soniya and Rohit have been charged with conspiracy to commit murder, and Rohit has admitted to being in a relationship with Soniya and conspiring to kill Pritam. The murder was allegedly committed due to an affair and Pritam's abusive and criminal behavior.
Soniya and Rohit have three children from the marriage, including a 16-year-old boy and two daughters. Pritam was declared a proclaimed offender by the court.
Delhi Police is actively searching for Vijay because he has fled and remains at large since the crime was committed. His arrest is crucial to completing the case. The Delhi Crime Branch has been working tirelessly to solve the case and bring the perpetrators to justice.
