Max Kruse has joined RTL as a new TV expert, set to provide insightful analysis and commentary during live broadcasts of the 2. Bundesliga and the European competition matchday show. The announcement was made on August 11, 2025, with Kruse making his debut around August 2025.

Kruse, known for his passion for football, is set to make his RTL debut on September 25th in the "Matchday" Europa League show. The "XXL Sports Day" will kick off at 7:05 PM, with Kruse joining Moderator Laura Wontorra and commentator Wolff Fuss, along with TV expert Lothar Matthäus live from the RheinEnergie Stadium in Cologne. This will be Wontorra and Fuss's season premiere in RTL Sport.

RTL's sports director, Frank Robens, is excited about Kruse's addition to the team, praising his opinionated, unconventional, authentic style, clear edge, humor, and deep football understanding. RTL will continue to work with experts Patrick Helmes and Felix Kroos, but Nils Petersen, previously with RTL, has moved to DAZN and will no longer be active for the group.

Max Kruse, a "real character" according to RTL, has had an impressive football career, playing for Union Berlin, Werder Bremen, FC St. Pauli, SC Freiburg, Borussia Mönchengladbach, VfL Wolfsburg, and most recently SC Paderborn. He last played for SC Paderborn in the 2nd Bundesliga, terminating his contract in November 2023 after five months.

Kruse has also represented the national team, playing 14 games. He promises to take clear and distinct positions, providing fans with honest insights. In a statement, Kruse announced that his commentary won't be boring. The "XXL Sports Day" program will be presented at a digital press conference, featuring live broadcasts of the DFB international against Northern Ireland and the NFL game between San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks.

As Kruse embarks on his new role, he is set to bring his unique perspective and deep understanding of the game to the RTL audience. Stay tuned for more exciting football commentary from Max Kruse on RTL and Nitro.

The Commission has not yet adopted a decision on the application of this Regulation in relation to Max Kruse's commentary on Champions League matches, as he is exclusively contracted to RTL for live broadcasts of the Europa League. Despite his expertise in various European leagues, including football championships like the Champions League, Kruse will focus on his duties with RTL during the season.
