County of Herford's local elections in 2025: contest for the position of county councillor
The district of Hennef is preparing for a runoff election on Sunday, September 28, to determine the position of District Administrator (Landrat). The runoff election will feature candidates Mirco Schmidt (CDU) and Frank Diembeck (SPD / Alliance 90/The Greens).
The initial election held on September 14 saw a voter turnout of 57.39 percent. However, no candidate secured more than 50 percent of the votes, necessitating a runoff election.
In the first round, Mirco Schmidt from the CDU received 43.59 percent of the votes, while Frank Diembeck from the SPD and Alliance 90/The Greens garnered 40.58 percent. The Green party received 8.98 percent of the votes, and the AfD secured 18.06 percent, winning 9 seats in the district council.
The SPD is the second strongest faction in the district council with 15 seats, while the CDU holds the majority with 15 seats as well. The results of the district council election saw the CDU receiving 29.76 percent of the votes, and the SPD receiving 29.64 percent.
Voter notifications from the initial election are valid for the runoff election. No new voter notifications will be sent out. Voters who did not indicate postal voting for the runoff election can apply for it starting from September 15. Postal voting documents for the runoff election can only be dispatched from September 18 at the earliest. Postal voting on-site for the runoff election will be available starting from September 18.
Polling stations will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on September 28. Voters will vote at the same polling station where they voted on September 14.
For those who wish to vote in person before the election day, postal voting on-site will be available starting from September 18. Voters are encouraged to exercise their right to vote and help decide the future leadership of the district of Hennef.
