County of Herford's 2025 Local Elections: Contest for the Position of County Councillor

In the district of Herford, a runoff election for the position of district administrator will take place on September 28, 2025. The election is necessary as no candidate received over 50 percent of the votes in the initial election held on September 14.

The runoff election will feature a contest between Mirco Schmidt (CDU) and Frank Diembeck (SPD / B 90 Greens). Schmidt received 40.58 percent of the votes (44,162 votes), while Diembeck secured 43.59 percent (47,446 votes).

For those who wish to vote by post, no new notifications will be sent out for the runoff election. Voters who indicated on their postal voting application for the first election that they wanted postal voting documents for the runoff election do not need to reapply. However, voters who did not indicate this can apply for postal voting starting from September 15.

Postal voting in person can only be done starting from September 18. Voters will vote at the same polling station where they voted in the first election on September 14. The polling stations will be open from 8 am to 6 pm on September 28.

It's important to note that voters will need to present their voter notification or personal ID to vote.

In the initial election, a total of 114,000 valid votes were cast in the elections for the district administrator, district council, mayoral, and city or municipal council. The voter turnout in the district of Herford was 57.39 percent.

The CDU and SPD are the strongest factions in the district council, each with 15 seats. The Greens have 4 seats in the district council. However, specific results for the mayoral or city or municipal council elections were not provided.
