Vietnam to Host Nationwide Hybrid Ceremony for Major Project Inaugurations

On August 19, 2021, Vietnam will celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day with a nationwide hybrid ceremony. The event will take place simultaneously at around 250 projects across 80 sites in the country, showcasing significant developments in various sectors.

The key focus of the ceremony will be on eight key education projects, aimed at improving access to education, modernizing curricula, and addressing challenges such as teacher shortages and funding mechanisms in education. The government has set ambitious targets for the upcoming academic year, aiming for high enrollment and teacher qualification standards.

Apart from education, several notable projects are set to be inaugurated or have ground broken during the ceremony. These include the Vietnam National Exposition Centre in Hanoi's Dong Anh commune, developed by Vingroup, and the Hai Anh Wind Power Plant in Quang Tri province, worth 1.565 trillion VND.

The extensive program is projected to contribute over 18% of national GDP in 2025 and more than 20% in the following years. The completion of the Rach Mieu Bridge in the Mekong Delta is a notable achievement, marking the progress in infrastructure development.

Foreign direct investment capital is committed to five projects, worth roughly 54 trillion VND, demonstrating international confidence in Vietnam's growth. One of these projects is Viettel's Research and Development Centre for advanced technologies such as semiconductors, AI, and big data, with an investment of around 10 trillion VND.

State-funded works will provide strategic infrastructure frameworks to attract and guide private investment. Over 3,000 km of expressways and Phase 1 of Long Thanh International Airport in Dong Nai province are expected to be completed nearly a year ahead of schedule, showcasing the government's commitment to infrastructure development.

As of August 13, 250 eligible projects in 34 provinces and cities had been confirmed. Of these, 89 are completed and ready for inauguration, and 161 are new and set to start construction. The total investment for these projects is approximately 1.28 quadrillion VND (48.73 billion USD).

In addition, a second nationwide ceremony is scheduled for December 19 to mark the completion and launch of additional large-scale projects. A 76.9-ha commercial-service and amusement complex valued at 79.79 trillion VND will launch in Da Nang, and the Nghe An Oncology Hospital with 1,000 beds and an investment of 1.26 trillion VND will be inaugurated.

These developments underscore Vietnam's commitment to progress and growth across various sectors. The nationwide hybrid ceremony on August 19 is set to be a significant milestone in Vietnam's journey towards modernisation and development.
