In the Ilm district of Germany, a fatal car accident occurred near Ilmenau after a driver swerved to avoid a deer on the road. The driver, aged 18, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The accident happened while the group of four young men, aged between 17 and 19, were traveling between Graefinau-Angstedt and Wuembach at night. As the driver attempted to merge back onto the road following an overtaking maneuver, he swerved to avoid a deer. The car veered off the road, colliding with a tree, spinning around, and landing in a ditch.

The impact trapped two of the 18-year-old passengers in the vehicle, while the two others managed to escape. All three survivors were transported to the hospital with severe injuries.

The authorities have yet to provide additional details on the cause of the crash or the involvement of other motorists. This incident serves as a grim reminder of the potential dangers when encountering wildlife on roads during nighttime travels.
