Countries Japan and China refute claims of providing military combat drones

In the ongoing border dispute between Thailand and Cambodia, both Japan and China have officially denied providing combat drones to either side.

The Japanese Embassy in Cambodia issued a statement clarifying that Japan has never planned or received any request to supply combat drones to Thailand. The Embassy emphasized that Japan's assistance is limited to areas not directly related to international conflict and urged the public not to spread false information.

Similarly, the Chinese Embassy in Bangkok denied claims that China had donated drones to support Cambodia's border operations. It explained that drone images cited in some reports were from a public flight demonstration in Cambodia in January 2024, unrelated to the current conflict. China also expressed its commitment to maintaining close communication with countries in the region, including Thailand, Cambodia, and Malaysia.

Thailand’s Ministry of Defence confirmed that most of the surveillance drones detected by Thai forces along the border originated from Cambodia. There is also a related report about police seizing drones from a Samut Prakan warehouse, but the source of these drones remains unclear.

It is worth noting that a drone sighted in Surin on Sunday evening originated from within Thailand, according to Thai authorities.

In light of these developments, it appears that while drones have been active in the conflict zone, neither Japan nor China has provided combat drones for use in this dispute according to their official denials and the available evidence.

  • The ongoing war-and-conflicts between Thailand and Cambodia have become a topic of general-news interest, with the denials from both the Japanese and Chinese Embassies clarifying that neither country has supplied combat drones for use in the dispute.
  • In the midst of this political tension, the general-news and crime-and-justice sectors have also been focused on the seizure of drones from a Samut Prakan warehouse in Thailand, as the source of these drones remains unclear.
