Breaking: India and Pakistan End Hostilities After Long-Night Mediation

Countries India and Pakistan reach agreement on cessation of hostilities.

In an unexpected turn of events, India and Pakistan have agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire. The U.S., reportedly, served as the mediator during a lengthy negotiation.

According to Pakistan's Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, the ceasefire has been confirmed on the X platform. India likewise confirmed their participation in the agreement. Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump announced the ceasefire on his online platform, Truth Social.

The U.S. President expressed his gratitude to both nations, praising their intelligence and common sense in reaching this agreement.

Tensions skyrocketed following April's Attack

Recent days have seen an escalation in the conflict between the two countries, which can be traced back to a terrorist attack on April 22 in the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The brutal attack claimed 26 lives, mostly Indian tourists. India believes Pakistan is culpable, an allegation Pakistan refutes and demands an independent investigation.

Deep-rooted Conflict since the Colonial Era

Tracing its roots to the colonial era, the conflict between India and Pakistan expresses bitter resentment. In 1947, the British released the Indian subcontinent into independence, dividing it. From this division, alongside predominantly Hindu India, the Muslim-majority Pakistan was formed.

Since their inception, the two countries have been embroiled in three wars, two of which centered around the Kashmir border region. As of today, reports of deaths and injuries have surfaced from the Himalayan region, following renewed attacks.

International parties, including the foreign ministers of the G7 countries, have urged both India and Pakistan to de-escalate the situation to maintain regional stability. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has also held discussions with both parties, offering the U.S.'s support for direct dialogue between the disputing parties.
