Supports Actions of Iran's 'Terrorist Government' - Countermeasures offered against Iran's categorized regime as "terrorist"
In response to criticism over Chancellor Friedrich Merz's support for Israel's attacks on Iran, Chief of Staff of the Chancellery Thorsten Frei has defended the Chancellor's stance. "The Chancellor's words represent our shared interest in preventing a regime like the Iranian Mullah regime from acquiring nuclear weapons," Frei explained to German Press Agency.
It's not just about nuclear weapons, though. "Iran's rocket technology can reach targets far beyond Europe, and that's a threat we must acknowledge," Frei added.
In an interview during the G7 summit in Canada, Merz expressed his admiration for Israel's "guts" in dealing with the Iranian threat. Merz's statement, which some criticized for his choice of words, drew international attention.
Frei emphasized that a legal assessment of Israel's actions is premature due to the lack of sufficient information. "Israel acted out of necessity, given Iran's intent to wipe it off the map," he stated.

Frei reiterated that Germany remains committed to ensuring Israel's protection, even following Israel's offensive actions against Iran. "And the German government will continue to stand by Israel," Frei declared.
Germany's support for Israel is evident in its past and present weapon and military equipment deliveries to Israel, despite the Middle East being a conflict zone. Germany has approved the export of military goods to Israel even amid the crisis, with the exception of weapons delivered to Ukraine. The new government has also recently approved the sale of military equipment worth approximately four million euros to Israel in the first five weeks of its term, according to the Ministry of Economics.
Despite the limited military exports, Frei asserts that comparing the current situation to previous years is misleading. "Comparisons over shorter periods can't reveal a strategy behind it," Frei clarified. "Germany's stance towards Israel has not changed under the current government."
