Cottbus secures second victory on foreign soil in Mannheim, scoring three unanswered goals
In the 3rd division, FC Energie Cottbus delivered a dominating performance in their latest match against Waldhof Mannheim, securing a 3-0 away victory. This was the first defeat for Mannheim under their new coach, Luc Holtz from Luxembourg.
The match, scheduled for Wednesday, marked the beginning of the East derby. Cottbus went into halftime with a comfortable two-goal lead, which was truly deserved. The team displayed an impressive offensive performance in the first half, consistently breaking down Mannheim's defense on the right side.
Axel Borgmann opened the scoring for Cottbus after just seven minutes, setting the tone for the rest of the match. Jannis Boziaris extended the lead to 2-0 before halftime, ensuring a strong position for Cottbus going into the second half.
The third and final goal for Cottbus came in the 75th minute, courtesy of Justin Butler. The Waldhof captain, Lukas Klünter, was sent off with a yellow-red card in the 25th minute, which further disrupted Mannheim's efforts to mount a comeback.
Following this win, Cottbus currently ranks eighth in the table. The upcoming match against Erzgebirge Aue, who have won only one game from their first five this season, will provide an opportunity for Cottbus to improve their standing in the table. It's worth noting that Erzgebirge Aue is currently in the relegation zone.
The current coach of Erzgebirge Aue is Jens Härtel. Cottbus will host Aue in their next match, scheduled for Wednesday. Luc Holtz, the coach of Mannheim, had previously won two games before the defeat against Cottbus. This upcoming match against Erzgebirge Aue will be an important test for both teams as they aim to climb the ranks in the 3rd division.
