Weekly music selections exhibit the diverse and dynamic nature of tunes categorized as Latin, defying easy classification. Instead, it's more appropriate to refer to it as Exceptional Music.

The New Music shows, a celebration of the variety in Latin music, have been making waves with their diverse selection of artists and genres. One such artist who has made a significant impact is Natanael Cano.

Born on March 27, 2001, Natanael Cano is a Mexican singer, musician, and rapper who has been pioneering a unique music style that mixes trap music with regional Mexican corridos, a genre he calls "corridos tumbados".

Natanael began his music career in 2018 by posting guitar videos on YouTube and performing in smaller venues. He signed with Five Music in 2019 and released his first official song, "El de los Lentes Gucci", followed by his debut album Todo Es Diferente [1].

Some of his popular songs include "El de los Lentes Gucci", "El Drip" (which charted on the US Hot Latin Songs), and "Soy el Diablo" (notably a remix with Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny) [1]. He has also released albums and EPs notable in his genre, such as Corridos Tumbados, Mi Verdad Corridos Tumbados, and Mi Nuevo Yo [1].

In 2025, Natanael released an album titled Recordando a Ariel Camacho, covering classic songs by Ariel Camacho, recorded live with Los Plebes del Norte [2]. He has also collaborated with artists like Bizarrap and was the first Mexican artist named "artist of the month" by Apple Music Up Next, marking him as a rising star in Latin music [1][2].

However, Natanael's career has not been without controversy. He was banned from the U.S. for visa fraud related to misrepresenting his status on an R-1 religious worker visa application [3], and a notable onstage altercation during Baja Beach Fest 2025 [4][5].

The New Music shows have also featured collaborations such as Gabito Ballesteros and Carin Leon's "Regalo de Dios", Gabriel Alegria Afro-Peruvian Sextet's "Panabe", and performances by Lucrecia Dalt, goodtoknow (Paula Prieto, Benjamin Walker, Sir Hope), Sofia Kourtesis, and Harold Lopez-Nussa, among others. The shows are described as zipping from one genre of Latin music to another, emphasizing the richness and vitality of Latin music, and presenting themselves as an expression of the diversity in Latin music.

The shows do not attempt to identify all music under one Latin music heading but instead feature a variety of genres under the umbrella of Latin music, selecting good music without a specific genre label. Alexi Pavlov, a photographer associated with Warner Music Latina, is one of the people behind the scenes contributing to the shows' success. Noah Caldwell produced the audio for the New Music shows episode.

The New Music shows continue to shine a light on the vibrant and diverse Latin music scene, showcasing a wide range of genres and artists, and Natanael Cano is a shining example of the talent and creativity that can be found within it.
