readying for winter's kiss in southwest Germany

Get your mittens and snow boots ready, winter is on its way to the Black Forest and Swabian Alb! According to a meteorologist from the German Weather Service (DWD) in Baden-Württemberg, "the harbinger of winter is coming." While the lowlands will have to wait for their winter blanket, chillier temperatures and potentially some snow are heading our way this weekend.

The DWD has predicted temperatures to be between 4-10 degrees Celsius at the start of the weekend, but by Saturday, the mercury is expected to drop, with wind and minimal sunshine bringing highs as low as minus 1 degrees and a high of 6 degrees. The snowy peaks of the Black Forest are forecasted to see a few centimeters of fresh snow, with up to ten centimeters remaining on the Feldberg, while our sun-soaked Swabian Alb could be lucky enough to hold on to up to five centimeters of snow until the start of the next week.

Sunday will present a similar forecast, with mountains receiving snow and flatter regions seeing rain and sleet, with Upper Swabia holding the greatest potential for a brief white dusting of snow. Keep an eye out for any updates from the DWD for the most precise forecasts.

This cooler weather is excellent news for ski lift operators, with Feldbergbahnen planning to open their slopes as scheduled on December 1. With a snow coverage of around 20 centimeters, their preparations can begin, followed by a few days to groom the slopes, and then they're off to the races! Unfortunately, our Swabian Alb ski slopes will not open until mid-December.

Remember, while this information is a general overview of the upcoming forecast, external sources like local weather services and detailed forecasts will provide more precise information about snowfall and temperatures in your specific area. So, bundle up and watch those weather updates closely!
