Cool as a cucumber, Lys manages pressure, top job not strain-inducing.
Fiery Warrior on the Tennis Court: Eva Lys’s Crusade at WTA Berlin
Berlin (dpa/bb) - Eva Lys doesn't view being Germany's top tennis player as a burden. Instead, she finds it a source of motivation to maintain her position. "Certainly, I feel a greater weight, but this pushes me to stay on top," said the 23-year-old prior to the grass tournament in Berlin.
Currently ranked 62nd in the world, Lys finds roots in Ukraine[3]. "Each standing position comes with its own pressure, but I've felt quite at ease with it for the past few months," reported the titan.
At the forefront of the WTA tournament in Berlin, Lys desires to accumulate more grass court experience and fortify herself for the Wimbledon classic, set to begin at the end of June. This year, she will debut directly in the main draw[1].
Facing off against the Spanish heavyweight Paula Badosa in her inaugural match, Lys has her sights set on demonstrating her worth as Germany's numero uno[2]. "My goal for the 500 event in Grunewald is to prove I deserve this title," she declared[2].
As of recent updates, Lys holds a rank of 62 in the WTA rankings[3]. However, her ranking was slightly higher, peaking at 60 on June 9, 2025[5].
In 2025, Lys managed to secure a spot in the Berlin Open, where she went head-to-head against Paula Badosa in the first round. Unfortunately, she fell to Badosa, ranked 10th, with a score of 6-1[1]. This bout marked their initial encounter on the tennis court[2]. Previously, they had no history of competition against each other[2].
Eva Lys aims to accumulate more grass court experience during the WTA tournament in Berlin, preparing herself for the Wimbledon classic. In her first match of the tournament, she will face off against Paula Badosa, seeking to demonstrate her worth as Germany's top tennis player.
