EU Light-Commercial Vehicle Market Trends in 2024

In 2024, the European market for light-commercial vehicles (LCVs) experienced growth, with a total of 1,586,688 units registered, representing an 8.3% increase compared to the previous year [1]. The top four performing countries were Spain, Germany, France, and Italy, each showing varying growth rates.

Spain led the pack with a robust 13.7% growth, followed by Germany with an 8.4% increase. France and Italy, on the other hand, saw more modest growth of 1.1% and 0.9% respectively. However, it's worth noting that Italy led the hybrid LCV market in 2024, despite a 9.4% volume drop, with 14,864 registrations [2]. France followed closely with a 22.9% improvement, reaching 11,701 deliveries [2].

Unfortunately, Spain and Italy also recorded a decrease in electric LCV registrations in 2024, with 7,184 and 4,299 registrations respectively. Spain fell 27.9% and Italy plummeted 40.9% [2]. The Netherlands, however, posted a 17.4% improvement in electric LCV deliveries in 2024, reaching 11,704 deliveries [3].

The overall electric LCV market in 2024 saw a decrease of 9.1%, with 96,159 registrations [3]. This drop in electric LCVs accounted for a decrease in their market share, which fell from 7.2% in the previous year to 6.1% in 2024.

The demand for hybrid LCVs also decreased by 4.8% in 2024, reaching 32,282 units [3]. In contrast, the petrol LCV market showed varied trends among the big four EU member states. Spain surged 39.8%, Germany saw an improvement of 4.3%, Italy dropped 10%, and France fell 2.3% [4]. The petrol LCV volumes grew by 3% in 2024, reaching 94,466 deliveries [4].

France had the largest market share for electric LCVs in 2024 with 27,059 deliveries, a decrease of 2.6% compared to the previous year [1]. Germany had the second-largest market share for electric LCVs in 2024 with 14,999 registrations, a decrease of 27.9% compared to the previous year [2].

In summary, while the overall LCV market in the EU saw growth in 2024, the electric and hybrid LCV segments experienced a decrease. The trends varied among the top-performing countries, with Spain leading the growth in the traditional LCV market, and the Netherlands and France showing improvements in electric LCV deliveries.
