Convicted Syrian jihadist receives a life imprisonment for the killing of Jordanian fighter pilot Muath al-Kasasbeh.
Swedish Court Sentences Osama Krayem to Life in Prison for 2015 Murder of Jordanian Pilot Muath al-Kasasbeh
Osama Krayem, a Swedish citizen, has been sentenced to life in prison for his role in the 2015 murder of Muath al-Kasasbeh, a Jordanian Royal Air Force pilot. The Islamic State (IS or Daesh) group was responsible for capturing and murdering al-Kasasbeh in Syria.
On July 31, 2025, the Stockholm District Court convicted Krayem of war crimes and terrorism tied to the killing, sentencing him to life imprisonment. This conviction was separate from his earlier life sentence in Belgium for his involvement in the 2016 Brussels bombings.
According to the court, Krayem did not ignite the fire that killed al-Kasasbeh, but he was present at the scene, armed, in uniform, and actively participating in forcing al-Kasasbeh into the cage where he was killed. Krayem was accused of guarding al-Kasasbeh before and during his execution and taking him to the cage where he was set alight while still alive.
