A 35-year-old man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his 38-year-old wife in Freiburg, Germany. The court's ruling was handed down following a trial that saw the man initially charged with manslaughter but ultimately convicted of murder based on low motives, which are considered aggravating factors under the German Criminal Code.

The crime took place in June of the previous year in Simonswald, a town in the Black Forest district of Emmendingen. According to reports, the man severely injured his wife with heavy objects, leading to her tragic death.

In addition to the life sentence, the court ordered the man to pay survivor's benefits to the parents of the deceased, amounting to 10,000 euros each, and a total of 20,000 euros in survivor's benefits. The court also ordered him to pay 5,000 euros to the brother of the deceased.

The court's ruling did not specify the use of a chat log between the defendant and his wife from 2017 to 2021 as evidence in the trial. However, it is known that a computer containing the chat log was found during the investigation.

The verdict was originally scheduled for May but was postponed due to new police findings. Legal appeals can be filed within one week following the verdict, and the current verdict is not yet final.

Early release from life imprisonment is possible after 15 years, but in practice, it is virtually impossible. The crime was found to be of particular gravity by the court.
