Convict receives a 13-year sentence for sharing intel with the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU)
A 51-year-old Russian citizen named Sergei Maklakov was convicted of treason by the Krasnodar Regional Court in July 2023. The court sentenced him to 13 years in a strict-regime penal colony and one year of restricted freedom for transferring sensitive data about submarines to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).
The court's decision came after Maklakov continued his activities in 2024, even after being found guilty of treason the previous year. In the spring of 2023, he received communication and data transmission devices - routers and SIM cards - which he used to collect information about submarine locations.
In 2024, Maklakov sent this information exclusively to the Ukrainian special services. The submarines' locations were the focus of the information he provided, and his actions were aimed at hindering a special military operation.
The devices were hidden in a garage in Novorossiysk, where Maklakov resided. The details of his activities were not disclosed, but it is clear that his actions had serious implications for Russia's national security.
This is not the first time Maklakov has been in trouble with the law. In the past, he has been accused of espionage and other security-related offences. His conviction and sentencing serve as a reminder of the consequences of such actions and the importance of protecting national security.

In 2024, despite being convicted and sentenced for treason the previous year, Sergei Maklakov continued his activities, potentially jeopardizing Russia's national security through general-news related activities centering around crime-and-justice, involving sensitive data about submarines and their locations. His actions in this ongoing saga were aimed at hindering a special military operation, drawing attention from both Russian and Ukrainian authorities.
