In Egypt, TikTok creators are facing a growing threat as they risk being arrested and charged with financial crimes related to their earnings if their content is deemed indecent. This crackdown is part of a broader discourse aimed at regulating public behavior in the country.

Multiple state bodies, including the Interior Ministry, Al-Azhar, the ministries of Culture and Information, and the Egyptian Ministry of Interior, are tasked with overseeing and enforcing public morality. These authorities have been known to review all content posted by TikTok creators and declare their income illegal if a single post is deemed indecent.

The terms used by Egyptian authorities, such as "acts against public decency" or "behaviors that contradict social values," are often criticized as being vague and capable of encompassing a wide range of meanings. This ambiguity allows for a subjective interpretation of what constitutes indecent content, leading to concerns about freedom of expression.

Critics argue that the crackdown on TikTok creators is part of broader efforts to curb freedom of expression and silence voices that deviate from the norm in Egypt. For instance, 19-year-old TikTok influencer Maryam Ayman, known as Suzy al-Urduniya, was arrested on charges of publishing indecent content and laundering 15 million Egyptian pounds ($300,000).

Notably, among those arrested for similar reasons is Tarek Mesho, a dancer who was arrested at the First Amiriya Police Precinct in Alexandria. The Egyptian Interior Ministry's Security Forces were responsible for his arrest, which was considered a violation of societal values by the authorities.

The application of Egypt's family morality laws is generally arbitrary, according to legal experts. This has led to concerns about the fairness and consistency of the enforcement of these laws.

In Türkiye, the Hittite site yielded 56 cuneiform tablets and 22 seal impressions. Meanwhile, the Bayrampasa Mayor was arrested in a corruption probe.

Amnesty International called on the UK to halt arms to Israel and enforce ICC warrants after a UN genocide report. These global events serve as a stark contrast to the ongoing debate and controversies surrounding the regulation of public behavior and freedom of expression in Egypt.
