Passenger advocacy group Pro Bahn is slamming Deutsche Bahn’s proposed adjustments to ICE trips between the magnificent cities of Dresden and Leipzig. Rather than cutting connections, the group insists that room should remain plentiful and even be increased, they stated. Phasing out trains isn't an effective approach to stimulate transportation reform.
"Sächsische Zeitung" has reported that the railroad intends to scrap the late ICE connection between Leipzig and Dresden, starting from mid-June, except on Saturdays. Trains will run with only one unit instead of two, leading to a staggering 40 percent decrease in seats. This decision comes as a result of retiring a particular older ICE series, predominantly utilized on the Dresden to Frankfurt/Main and Wiesbaden route.
Deutsche Bahn asserts that a significant number of seats have remained vacant to date. Therefore, the seating capacity will still be ample in the future. As stated by a railway spokesperson, alternatives vehicles will be used on most affected connections in the long term. Only minor tweaks will be needed in the timetable.
On the other hand, Pro Bahn categorizes these plans as a "catastrophe" for the Dresden region. Faithful customers are being left hanging. "Just as we celebrate the 35th anniversary of German unity, the railway is giving up on the east." Thus, stated Pro-Bahn representative Michael Koch.
The Greens in the Saxon state parliament characterized the railway’s ideas as unacceptable. The current services must be retained, demanded transport policy spokeswoman Katja Meier.
