Rainy Days Ahead in Bavaria: Keep Your Umbrella Handy! ☔️
Intense rainfall in Bavaria persists, bringing more showers and thunderstorms - Continued showers and thunderstorms persist following the storms in Bavaria.
Strong storms, thunderbolts, and hailstones rocked parts of Bavaria a few days ago. The German Weather Service (DWD) had a pretty accurate forecast, but it's generally tricky to predict the impact of such storms on train tracks, homes, or autos.
In the Lower Bavarian district of Kelheim, particularly Langquaid, wind speeds topping 100 kilometers per hour were observed, according to preliminary DWD data. Regions like Zwiesel in Lower Bavarian's Regen district and Regensburg in Upper Palatinate experienced heavy rainfall of around 26 liters per square meter. Meanwhile, Schöngeising in Upper Bavaria recorded the largest hailstones, with diameters of approximately 7 centimeters [1].
The DWD had earlier warned of severe thunderstorms across extensive regions of Bavaria, with hailstones as large as 8 centimeters, gusty winds over 120 kilometers per hour, and a downpour of 25 to 40 liters per square meter.
Umbrellas, Strongly Advised! 🌧️
The weather conditions in Bavaria will continue to be unpredictable in the coming days, with steady rain and occasional thunderstorms gracing the region. Per the DWD, skies will stay mostly overcast today, with rain showers making appearances. From the Bavarian Forest to the Allgäu, the rainfall will be heavy in many places. Through the weekend, things may take a turn for the stormy again, with continued rain and more unsettled conditions, a DWD spokesperson pointed out.
