Competition #25 of the Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition Kicks Off on Nintendo Switch

\n\nThe latest speedrun competition, Competition #25, for the Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition game is now live on Nintendo Switch. This exciting event is available exclusively to Nintendo Switch Online members and runs until January 6, 2026, at 12:59 a.m. PT.

\n\nIn this competition, players will face off in classic speedrun challenges based on 13 iconic NES games. These challenges, which are available for the duration of the competition, include Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, and Super Mario Bros. 3, among others.

\n\nTo participate, players must have the Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition game on their Nintendo Switch and a Nintendo Switch Online membership. The game, which launched on the Nintendo Switch eShop on July 18, 2025, as part of the Nintendo Switch Online service, features over 150 speedrun challenges across the 13 NES titles.

\n\nIn addition to the weekly speedrun challenges, players can also hone their skills in single-player Speedrun mode, where they can improve their times and unlock new challenges and pins. For those who prefer a more social experience, Multiplayer Party Mode supports up to eight local players. However, the Speedrun Competition specifically relates to the online leaderboard in World Championships Mode.

\n\nEach week, five different speedrun challenges rotate, and players compete to secure positions on the global leaderboard for each challenge. The competition tests players' speed and precision, as they race to collect coins in Super Mario Bros. or reach the sword early in The Legend of Zelda faster than others.

\n\nTo qualify and compete globally, players must submit their fast speedrun times online. After the competition, participants can check their overall placement and compare with other players in their birth year. Replays of the top runs for each challenge from the previous competition are also available to watch, providing valuable insights to improve one's own times.

\n\nIt's important to note that terms apply to the use of online features, and a Nintendo Account is also required. Internet access is necessary for online features, and membership auto-renews after the initial term unless canceled.

\n\nPlease note that the game is not available in all countries. For more information about the Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition Speedrun Competition #25, visit the official Nintendo website. Good luck, and may the best player win!
