Contestant Yulissa Speaks Out Following Staggering Elimination During Love Island USA Season 7

Updated Article:

Yulissa Escobar, the 27-year-old contestant on Love Island USA, has put an end to the speculation surrounding her abrupt exit from Season 7. In a post on her Instagram account, she addressed the resurfaced podcast clips where she used racial slurs, likely causing her departure from the villa in Episode 2.

"Alright, let's clear the air," she wrote, "I've seen the videos, and I f***ing regret using that fuckin' word. I never intended to offend anyone or cause harm, but I recognize now that there's no excuse for it. I was ignorant about the history, weight, and pain behind it, and that's no excuse."

She went on to explain, "Back then, I was just spittin' out whatever came to mind, tossin' around words I hadn't a right to use. But now I know better, and I'm goddamn sorry. I've taken the time to reflect, learn, and grow from my mistakes."

Escobar continued, "I ain't perfect, but I'm tryin' to be a better person every day. I've changed the way I talk, how I act, and how I treat others. Growth means recognizing when you were wrong, owning up to it, and choosing to make amends. And that's exactly what I'm doin'."

Yulissa made her debut on May 29, alongside nine other singles in Fiji for the popular reality dating show. However, her time on the show was cut short when she was announced missing during Episode 2. While Peacock has yet to provide an explanation for her exit, news outlets reported that the controversial videos may have led to her removal.

"I know most of y'all are relieved I ain't on that show no more, and I don't blame ya," Escobar added in her apology post. "I ain't perfect, but I'm workin' on it. I hope y'all can forgive me and give me a chance to make things right."

This isn't the first time the Miami native has been embroiled in controversy. In 2020, a video surfaced of her slapping a man during an argument[1]. Escobar later released a public apology for her actions.

The remaining Islanders on Season 7 include Chelley Bissainthe, Huda Mustafa, Belle-A Walker, Olandria Carthen, Ace Greene, Taylor Williams, Nicolas Vansteenberghe, and Jeremiah Brown, along with new bombshells Cierra Ortega and Charlie Georgiou. Ariana Madix returned as host for her second season. Love Island USA airs daily, except Wednesdays, at 9 p.m. ET on Peacock.
