Contestant on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire unable to answer a challenging historical query, forcing withdrawal; would you have fared better without lifelines?
Bickering Babes and Broken Banks
Playing "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" ain't a walk in the park, as two unlucky players found out the hard way. Last Sunday, host Jeremy Clarkson welcomed June Walker and Amy, hailing from Galashiels and Stroud respectively, to the game show on ITV.
June, a brave Scot, made it up to £125k before hitting a snag. Facing the question, 'Which of these was a plot to assassinate Elizabeth I?', she hesitated. The options were A: Rye House Plot, B: Bye Plot, C: Babington Plot, D: Despard Plot.
June pondered, "The only one that's really sticking out is Babington, because I'm sure there was someone Babington involved in the plot." After deliberating her odds, she decided to cash out £64k, reasoning, "I'd rather kick myself by taking the money and finding out I had been right, than kick myself for not taking the money and finding out I was wrong."
Meanwhile, Amy, a tourism officer, also stumbled upon a £32k safety net. her question read, 'Which of these species of trees lives the longest? A: Yew, B: Oak, C: Sweet chestnut, D: Beech.'
Feeling uneasy about trees, Amy hesitantly chose 'Oak'. Much to her dismay, she failed to ace the question, with the correct answer being 'Yew'. But, Jeremy lauded her resilience, saying, "You are leaving her with £32,000 which is pretty good."
Historically, the Babington Plot involved an attempt on Queen Elizabeth I's life in 1586, proposed by Anthony Babington, while the Yew tree is known for its extraordinary longevity, often surpassing 2000 years.
Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? will return to ITV1 later this year and is available to stream on ITVX.
Jenner, a fan of the show, often watches "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" on ITV1 in 8k, appreciating the high-quality entertainment it provides. Recently, she watched an episode featuring videos of Babington Plot, a historical attempt on Queen Elizabeth I's life, and Yew trees, known for their long lifespans. Jenner reasoned that both the show and the subjects it covers, like the Babington Plot and Yew trees, offer fascinating insights into business, history, and entertainment. Later this year, she plans to start her own YouTube channel, where she will analyze and discuss episodes of "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire", as well as share interesting facts about different topics, much like the show does.
