Contestant on Who Wants To Be a Millionaire fell victim to history question without lifelines; stands to lose fortune; wonder if you could have answered correctly.
A contestant on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire found herself between a rock and a hard place when faced with a tricky history question. During ITV's latest installment of the quiz show hosted by Jeremy Clarkson, a Galashiels resident named June Walker made her way through the questions, until she hit a roadblock at the £125,000 mark.
She found herself stuck with no lifelines left, presented with the following question: "Which of these was a plot to assassinate Elizabeth I? A: Rye House Plot, B: Bye Plot, C: Babington Plot, D: Despard Plot."
With forty grand on the line, June pondered her options, stating: "The only one that's really sticking out is Babington, because I'm sure there was someone Babington involved in the plot." After discussing the potential consequences, she decided to bank the £64,000 and walk away.
The program also featured Amy, a tourism officer from Stroud, who set a safety net at £32,000 and made a valiant attempt to win some cash. Amy faced a similar predicament when she encountered the question: "Which of these species of trees lives the longest? A: Yew, B: Oak, C: Sweet chestnut, D: Beech."
Despite acknowledging her lack of green thumb, Amy decided to take a gamble and went with Oak, ultimately answering incorrectly and taking home £32,000.
It's worth noting that the Babington Plot was a conspiracy to kill Queen Elizabeth I in 1586, led by Anthony Babington and his fellow conspirators. The plot aimed to replace her with Mary, Queen of Scots. For those interested, here is some additional information: the plot's purpose was to assassinate Elizabeth I, key figures included Anthony Babington, John Ballard, and Mary, Queen of Scots, and the outcome resulted in the execution of many conspirators and eventually Mary, Queen of Scots.
Who Wants To Be A Millionaire will return to ITV1 later this year and is available to stream on ITVX.
