Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition Speedrun Competition #35 is now live on Nintendo Switch Online!

This competition invites players to take on over 150 challenging moments from 13 classic NES games in a speedrunning event. The goal is to complete these bite-sized challenges—such as rushing through the first level of Super Mario Bros. or quickly defeating an enemy in Kirby’s Adventure—as fast as possible to earn letter rankings and in-game rewards.

Players can compete against others online, with the requirement of a Nintendo Switch Online membership (sold separately) and a Nintendo Account. The competition runs until March 17, 2023 at 1:59 a.m. Pacific Time.

The competition features challenges in World Championships and Survival modes. Some of the challenges include Updraft (Kirby's Adventure), Paratroopa Toppling (Super Mario Bros: Lost Levels), Power Grab: Missile (Metroid), Cheep Cheep Chase (Super Mario Bros), and Ace Balloonist (Balloon Fight).

To participate, players can challenge their friends on the same console or compete globally via Nintendo Switch Online. Performance is measured via letter rankings based on how quickly the challenge is completed, motivating players to improve their speedruns repeatedly. Completing challenges earns in-game coins that unlock additional challenges, including harder and more complex moments.

Replays may provide insights to improve participants' own times, and players can check their rankings and watch replays of top runs for each challenge. Additional accessories may be required for multiplayer modes (sold separately).

Newcomers and experienced players alike are encouraged to test their skills in these short, intense speedruns, making it accessible and competitive in a structured online environment. For more information about the competition, including official submission formats, timing methods, or prizes, check official Nintendo announcements or event pages linked to the specific competition.
