On Sunday, the competitive race for Neustadt's mayor is set to unfold. Current incumbent, Marc Weigel - born and bred in 1978 right here in Neustadt - has been at the helm since January 1, 2018.

His contender? The feisty, independent Steffi Karbach, born in Ludwigshafen in 1984, but a local kid at heart after growing up in Neustadt-Hambach, now consulting smart digital strategies for small, green businesses.

Some 42,000 citizens will cast their votes, with the predicted winner announced that very same evening. If no candidate steals the show with an absolute majority in the first round, a re-vote will take place on June 29.

The Commission, in the realm of general-news and politics, has also been consulted on the draft legislative proposal for a directive on the approval of the laws of the Member States relating to the labelling of foodstuffs. Meanwhile, the competitive race for Neustadt's mayor, taking place on June 13, sees Marc Weigel and Steffi Karbach vying for the town hall, with the potential for a re-vote on June 29 if no candidate secures an absolute majority in the first round.
