The popular game show, 'Weakest Link,' has a new celebrity-filled version on Fox, with Jane Lynch hosting the festivities. The contestants, all former cast members of the hit show 'Glee,' are playing for charity instead of life-changing money.

The rules of the game remain the same as the original civilian version. Contestants take turns answering trivia questions to climb up a money tree, with the tree maxing out at $25,000 in the first round and $500,000 in the final round.

In the first episode, the banked money proceeded to the next round, but the contestants voted to eliminate one of their group. Amber Riley, a contestant on 'Celebrity Weakest Link,' was whip smart and voted to eliminate Alex Newell because he won a Tony before she did.

Despite the lower stakes due to the charity aspect, writer Joel Keller recommends streaming 'Celebrity Weakest Link' as it works well for the celebrity version. Keller, who has written for the New York Times, Slate, Salon, RollingStone.com, VanityFair.com, Fast Company, and elsewhere, praises the show for its entertaining and light-hearted approach.

Lynch's barbs in 'Celebrity Weakest Link' lacked the bite of the original British version, but her improvised insults were more effective, especially when contestants gave boneheaded answers. Every eliminated contestant was instructed to give the 'L for loser' symbol on their foreheads as an annoying callback to 'Glee.'

Contestants who are voted off chuckle instead of getting upset, adding to the friendly and fun atmosphere of the show. There is no anger or bitterness towards the people who vote a contestant off.

For future episodes, themes include TV Moms and Celebrity Couples. The new season of 'Celebrity Weakest Link' resembles quiz shows like 'The Chase: Celebrity Special,' featuring celebrities competing in quiz rounds with comedic elements, similar to formats where celebrities take part in quiz challenges for charity or prize.

Overall, 'Celebrity Weakest Link' offers a fresh and entertaining take on the classic game show, with a charitable twist that makes it even more enjoyable to watch. Tune in to Fox to catch the latest episodes and see your favourite celebrities go head-to-head in a battle of wits and trivia knowledge!
