Contenders Allegedly Financing Isah's Campaign Against Tinubu, Claims Ex-NANS Head
In the thick of the political landscape, Atiku Isah – a self-proclaimed President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) – has ignited a storm of controversy, accusing Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, of an assault and abduction attempt. Seyi's camp, reacting vehemently, label these claims as politically motivated.
Isah staged a press conference in Abuja, claiming that he was brutally treated and abducted on April 15 after he rejected a staggering 100 million naira bribe, allegedly offered by Seyi and the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, to back President Tinubu's administration.
The NANS leader alleged that he was stripped, attacked, and held against his will by unidentified thugs following a meeting in Lagos where the bribe attempt was made. However, Seyi vehemently denied any meeting with Isah or being involved in such an incident via his Instagram stories, dismissing the allegations as a fabrication designed to tarnish his reputation.
El-Rufai, via his Twitter handle, raised queries about the situation, stating, "What is going on here? Are there denials by the named culprits or any response from law enforcement agencies or inquiries by human rights organisations? We must ask questions, demand answers and action!! #JusticeforNANSPresident - @elrufai." In response to these claims, Atiku Isah shared pictures allegedly showing him in meetings with prominent opposition figures such as Atiku Abubakar, Omoyele Sowore, and Sule Lamido, claiming that El-Rufai was currently accommodating him at his home.
Sunday Asefon, the Special Assistant to the President on Student Affairs and a former President of NANS, weighed in, stating that El-Rufai was attempting to destabilize Seyi to damage the first family. Asefon also dismissed the abduction and torture allegations as a smear campaign to discredit the Tinubu family.
Atiku Isah, however, denied ever staying in former governor, El-Rufai's house and questioned whether these meetings fundamentally suggested he was working for the opposition figures.
This controversy enmeshes student activism within the intricate web of national politics, where power struggles, allegations, and questions about legitimacy prevail.
