Contender Morris Dancer triumphs in first race for Palace Pier, bewildering rivals at Salisbury racecourse
Palace Pier, the former world champion miler and Darley stallion, has made a strong start in his stud career, quickly becoming a leading first-crop sire in Great Britain and Ireland. This was demonstrated by the success of his progeny in top European contests, ranging from approximately 1300m to 1600m.
One of Palace Pier's most notable offspring is Morris Dancer, who recently captured the Listed Stonehenge Stakes at Salisbury, leading a one-two finish for Palace Pier sires with A Bit of Spirit in second place. Morris Dancer, a homebred for Godolphin, is sired by Palace Pier and is the third foal out of Dubawi mare Menuetto.
Menuetto's pedigree traces back to Sadler's Wells and the influential mare Allez Les Trois, a half-sister to Urban Sea and King's Best. Allez Les Trois is a Riverman half-sister to the immortal Urban Sea and her Classic-winning half-brother King's Best.
Another significant achievement came from Royal Fixation, who produced Palace Pier's first Group race winner by taking the Sky Bet Lowther Stakes at York in August. This marked the second stakes winner among Palace Pier's first crop of foals.
In addition to Morris Dancer and Royal Fixation, Palace Pier's first crop includes A Bit of Spirit, who won the Newbury Local IQ EBF Novice, and Sirius A, who has won at 1408m and placed in Listed races.
These successes have secured Palace Pier's position as a leading first-crop sire, ranking second on the First Crop Sires Premiership. As the yearling sales begin in Deauville, lots by first-crop sires are expected to be notable at the Arqana August Yearling Sale.
