In Hungary, Simeon T., a German antifa activist, is currently on trial for severe bodily harm and attempted murder. Known for their activism against fascism and their non-binary identity, Simeon goes by the name "Maja." The latest update is that Simeon could face up to 24 years in prison if found guilty.

Simeon's father has taken to protesting, undertaking a hunger march, to draw attention to Simeon's case. The activism comes as Simeon considers resuming their hunger strike, a drastic measure they have used in the past to protest their treatment.

Simeon's journey began in a prison in Budapest, where they repeatedly complained about the conditions, including insufficient sunlight and alleged isolation. Their concerns led to a transfer from the prison to a detention hospital in Berettyóújfalu, where they seem to prefer being housed, despite the potential challenges.

The attacks Simeon was involved in, alongside left-wing radicals from Germany, Italy, and Hungary in February 2023, have resulted in several people suffering bone fractures, bruises, and large lacerations. These actions have led to Simeon being labelled a "left-wing terrorist."

However, Simeon accuses the Hungarian justice system of not being trustworthy. They believe that being queer and anti-fascist makes them an "enemy image" of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, which may have influenced their treatment and potential trial.

As of now, there are no confirmed details about official charges or formal extradition proceedings to Germany. Simeon hopes that the German justice system will bring them back to the Federal Republic as a form of reparation for an earlier deemed illegal extradition.

In an interview with the taz, Simeon did not answer whether they are guilty. Instead, they consider their drastic measures, including the hunger strike, as a cry for help and an accusation of their treatment. Simeon expresses a desire for a world without violence but acknowledges that reality does not always allow for this ideal.

As the trial progresses, the world watches to see how Simeon's case will unfold. The future remains uncertain, with potential implications for Simeon's freedom and the Hungarian justice system.
