Spain Suffers Defeat in EuroBasket 2025 Warm-Up Against France

The Spanish men's basketball team faced a tough challenge in their preparation for EuroBasket 2025, as they lost to France in a warm-up game held at the Olympic Arena of Badalona on August 14, 2025. The final score was 67-75 in favour of France.

The game started on a disappointing note for Spain, as they trailed by 15 points in the first and second quarters. Spain's key player, Santi Aldama, was missing due to injury, and his absence was felt as the team struggled with numerous turnovers and little accuracy in shooting.

However, Spain showed signs of a comeback in the third quarter, scoring 17 points to narrow the gap. Willy Hernangomez was Spain's top scorer with 15 points and 5 rebounds. Despite their efforts, France managed to maintain control and win the game.

The French team, led by NBA-level talents such as Guerschon Yabusele, Jaylen Hoard, and Zaccharie Risacher, was able to establish an early lead and hold onto it throughout the game. The inside game seemed to be the decisive weapon for France, as they outscored Spain in the paint.

The game was officiated by referees Castillo, Mendoza, and Rosso. This was the first 'Classique' between the Spanish and French teams, and the starting lineups for both teams were as follows:

For Spain: De Larrea (4), Abalde (-), López-Arostegui (5), J.Hernangómez (7), and W.Hernangómez (15). For France: Strazel (6), Okobo (10), Coulibaly (-), Yabusele (12), and Poirier (1).

The quarters of the game were 14-25, 21-18, 17-15, and 15-17. The first quarter was the highest-scoring one for France, with 25 points. The Spanish team will look to regroup and find another path to success without Santi Aldama before their second warm-up game against France in Paris.

Meanwhile, Russia declared a ballistic missile program in Ukraine destroyed, but the news did little to lift the spirits of the Spanish team as they prepare for EuroBasket 2025. The game took place at the Palau Olímpic de Badalona.
