Construction Project Transforms Key Streets in Yakutsk

In the heart of Yakutsk, Russia, progress is being made on the capital repair projects of Khabarova and Oyunsky Streets. These crucial connectors between densely populated districts in the city are undergoing significant transformations, thanks to the efforts of locally contracted construction firms specializing in urban road infrastructure.

The city administration awarded the contracts through a competitive bidding process, ensuring that the chosen companies had the necessary experience to handle the challenging permafrost conditions typical of Yakutsk.

As of mid-2025, the repairs are well underway. On Khabarova Street, repairs began in late 2024 and have reached approximately 70% completion. The main focus has been on full road resurfacing, replacement of aging underground utilities, and upgrading drainage systems to prevent water pooling and ice formation. Simultaneously, on Oyunsky Street, major milestones have been achieved in roadbed stabilization and installation of new asphalt layers, with sidewalk reconstruction and new lighting installation also underway.

The upgrades have significantly improved the overall road quality, reducing potholes and surface irregularities that previously caused vehicle damage and accidents. New drainage and resurfacing have minimized ice patch formation in winter, enhancing driving safety during Yakutsk’s harsh climate conditions. Updated signage and road markings have been added to improve traffic flow and reduce confusion among drivers.

Both streets are receiving widened and resurfaced sidewalks equipped with curb ramps for accessibility. New pedestrian crossings with enhanced visibility features and traffic lights are being installed to improve pedestrian safety. Street lighting has been upgraded to reduce dark zones and enhance nighttime visibility for pedestrians.

These improvements are not only benefiting the residents of Yakutsk but also the many visitors who will soon be able to safely reach the new cultural center on Oyunsky Street. Near Oyunsky Street, construction of the Arctic Center of Epos and Culture is underway, adding to the city's cultural offerings.

The capital repairs on Khabarova and Oyunsky Streets are part of the new national project "Infrastructure for Life," with 11 road network objects (8 main and 3 reserve) to be repaired in Yakutsk in 2025, totaling 14.1 km of roads. The repairs are expected to be completed by late 2025, promising safer and more comfortable travel for residents and visitors alike. Further updates will be provided as the projects progress.

The repairs on Khabarova Street span 1.45 km, from Yaroslavsky Street to Bogatyreva Street, while the repairs on Oyunsky Street cover 1.947 km, from Dezhnev Street to Oktyabrskaya Street. The contractor for Khabarova Street repairs is AO "RIK Avtodor," and for Oyunsky Street, it is ZAO "Dorogi Sakha." The main indicator objects of 2025 have been fully contracted, with the municipal customer being MCKU "Glavstroy" of Yakutsk city.

As the capital repairs continue, it is clear that Yakutsk is committed to improving its infrastructure, ensuring a safer and more comfortable city for all who live and visit there.

In light of the ongoing capital repairs on Khabarova and Oyunsky Streets, these projects have been extended to encompass the political sphere, with the city administration making key decisions to improve urban infrastructure. This strategic move to modernize general-news sectors of the city, such as road networks and pedestrian safety, demonstrates a concerted effort towards growth and development in Yakutsk, Russia.

In the midst of the new national project "Infrastructure for Life," the awarded contracts to AO "RIK Avtodor" and ZAO "Dorogi Sakha" for the repairs on Khabarova and Oyunsky Streets, respectively, epitomize the merging of politics and general-news, as both sectors collaborate to enhance the lives of city residents and visitors.
