Construction plans for a new road crossing raise concerns among environmentally conscious voters, as they worry about the potential waste of precious tree resources.

Despite the recent planting of approximately 2,200 trees in the area destined for Citizens' Park (previously the racecourse), the advocacy group 'Neuss Now!' expresses concern over the proposed street crossing from Stresemannallee to the racecourse site, as it may necessitate the felling of 12...

Construction plans for a new road crossing raise concerns among environmentally conscious voters, as they worry about the potential waste of precious tree resources.

In the heart of Hammfeld, a new path connection project is underway, aiming to provide a comfortable and traffic-safe route for residents to access the city's green spaces. This development is part of the Hammfeld I city quarter's further development, linked to the planned relocation of the tram from Stresemannallee to Hammfelddamm.

The project, which continues the path relationship within the Hammfeld city quarter, is intended to achieve a traffic-safe connection of the LAG site and the Rhine meadows (Rheinpark EUROGA) away from car axes, promoting mobility by bicycle and on foot. The new crossing of Stresemannallee is planned to establish a path connection between the LAG 2026 site and Hammfeld.

According to city spokesman, Marc Bohn, this connection of the city quarter to the new citizen's park is an important measure for future residents to access the green and open spaces. The development of the new path connection will occur after 2026, as stated by Ingeborg Arndt, city councilor.

The new path connection shortens the route to the city center and establishes an attractive direct link between the planned Hammfeld mixed district with 1,500 apartments and the park. The project also includes two access points: one via the path Am Rennbahnpark and another via Langemarckstraße.

However, concerns have been raised about the project's compatibility with the city's goals of cost reduction and climate protection. Wolf Busch, a member of the voters' community, questions the felling of 15 trees for a flower show, expressing concern over its potential impact on the environment and cost.

Ingeborg Arndt also raises concerns about the barrier-free accessibility of the third planned crossing on Stresemannallee, as a traffic light system cannot be installed by the start of LAG in 2026 due to time constraints. Furthermore, the project does not provide a safe crossing solution for blind, visually or hearing-impaired people by the start of LAG in 2026.

To align with the city's goals, the project could prioritize efficient use of resources, long-term sustainability, and green spaces. It could also incorporate sustainable materials, energy-efficient systems, and extensive replanting or other environmental mitigation strategies. Ensuring barrier-free accessibility would also enhance the project's overall sustainability by promoting social equity and long-term community benefits.

Proactive planning for future expansions, such as the Stresemannallee crossing project, can help manage costs and environmental impacts by allowing for more efficient use of resources and minimizing the need for future modifications. As the project progresses, these considerations will be crucial in ensuring its compatibility with Hammfeld's goals of cost reduction, climate protection, and inclusive design.

  1. The transport project in Hammfeld, which includes the new path connection, is not only about improving residential mobility by promoting cycling and walking, but also aligns with city's policy-and-legislation regarding climate-change and environmental-science, aiming for a sustainable and cost-effective development.
  2. The project's connection to the new citizens' park and green spaces emphasizes the importance of science and politics working together to create a more eco-friendly general-news landscape for future residents, while also addressing concerns about barrier-free accessibility and environmental impact.
  3. To ensure the project's long-term success and sustainability, it is crucial to incorporate environmental mitigation strategies, such as efficient use of resources, long-term sustainability, and green spaces, as well as addressing accessibility concerns, aligned with Hammfeld's goals of cost reduction, climate protection, and inclusive design.
