Construction on the Sagamu-Iperu Road Halted; Administration Provides Rationale

The Federal Government has put a stop to the 12km Sagamu-Iperu Road construction, adjacent to the Sagamu Interchange on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, following directives from Sen. David Umahi, the Minister of Works.

According to our sources, Umahi issued the directive after expressing dissatisfaction with the quality and pace of construction during a tour of road projects in Lagos and Ogun states on Thursday.

Given the issues found, the contractor has been given a seven-day ultimatum to address these matters and remove the existing stone base. Umahi also stressed the importance of using the appropriate milling machine and the right stone base mixture to ensure a smooth progression of the project.

During his inspection, Umahi pointed out that while the contractor had completed all ramps and retaining walls on certain bridges, he noticed some bridges had piers exhibiting rusted rods. This, he stated, is highly dangerous and requires immediate attention.

He made it clear that within the seven-day period, the design head would work alongside the contractor to create comprehensive drawings and costings to appeal to the President. The minister emphasized the urgency of this situation, stating that any structural collapse could cost billions to repair, while quick repairs would only require less.
