Karel Gott, the Golden Voice of Prague, was a beloved pop star who sold over 50 million records during his six-decade career. From "Biene Maja" and "Lady Carneval" to "Around the World Once," his hits resonated with fans around the world.

Originally, a museum dedicated to his life and work was planned to open in 2023 in the Prague district of Smichov, in his long-time residence, Villa Gott. However, the project has been temporarily halted, with specific reasons yet to be clearly stated in recent sources.

Ivana Gottova, Karel Gott's widow, announced the halt due to health and personal reasons. Despite this, she found the decision difficult, as the museum was intended to honor the legacy of her late husband and was initiated by her for fans of Karel Gott.

In light of the halted museum project, Prague 5 has chosen to create a lasting memorial by naming a small square near Karel Gott’s former villa after him. The naming of the square is currently under consideration by the naming commission of the Czech capital.

The villa where Karel Gott lived for over four decades is now being considered for the square named in his honour. It's worth noting that there was previously a museum dedicated to Karel Gott in Jevany near Prague, but it closed due to financial reasons.

As of August 2025, the Villa Gott project has not progressed to the establishment of a museum, with no updates suggesting that the museum construction or formal exhibition project has resumed or been completed.

Regardless of the current status of the museum project, the memory of Karel Gott continues to live on in the hearts of his fans, and the proposed square serves as a fitting tribute to the iconic pop star who passed away nearly six years ago.
