The White House is set to undergo a significant transformation with the construction of the State Ballroom, a 90,000-square-foot expansion to the East Wing. Originally proposed by President Donald Trump, this grand project aims to provide a permanent, elegant venue for state functions, replacing the need for large tents on the lawn for major events.

The project, scheduled to begin in September 2025 and be completed before the end of Trump's term in 2029, is estimated to cost approximately $200 million. Funding will be privately donated by President Trump and other patriot donors.

McCrery Architects, a firm renowned for their classical architectural design, have been chosen as the lead architect for the project. The construction team will be headed by Clark Construction, while AECOM will lead the engineering team.

Trump has expressed his desire for the ballroom to reflect his ability to build, potentially incorporating design elements from his Trump Turnberry golf club. The new ballroom will have a seated capacity of 650 people, significantly more than the current East Room's capacity of 200 guests.

The State Ballroom will be substantially separated from the main building of the White House, but its theme and architectural heritage will be almost identical to the main building. The United States Secret Service will provide necessary security enhancements and modifications for the State Ballroom.

Several meetings have been held with White House Staff, the National Park Service, the White House Military Office, and the Secret Service to discuss the design features and planning of the State Ballroom. The public can find updates on this project at our website www.gov.visit.

President Trump aims to address the longstanding limitation in the White House’s event hosting capacity, a limitation that has not seen major architectural changes since President Harry Truman’s era. The new ballroom will correct this issue, ensuring that future Administrations and the American people have a suitable venue for grand events.
