Berlin Marathon Road Closures Announced for Sunday and Beyond

The 51st Berlin Marathon, organized by SCC EVENTS and scheduled for Sunday, September 21, 2025, is set to bring significant changes to the city's traffic. Over 55,000 participants are expected to take part in the main event, which is known as the BMW Berlin Marathon.

Road closures have already begun and will continue until next week. From Thursday morning, Ebertstraße, John-Foster-Dulles-Allee, Scheidemannstraße, Dorotheenstraße, and the government district will be inaccessible. The streets along the marathon route, especially in Tiergarten and Mitte, will also be closed almost continuously until the main event ends on Sunday.

The Straße des 17. Juni has been closed between Platz des 18. März and Yitzhak-Rabin-Straße since the weekend. On Wednesday, this stretch will be closed up to the Großer Stern, including Yitzhak-Rabin-Straße. The finish area for the Berlin Marathon is being set up at the Brandenburg Gate on the Straße des 17. Juni.

Drivers should expect restrictions on Straße Unter den Linden and Potsdamer Straße from Saturday morning. The Straße des 17. Juni will remain closed until next Wednesday, despite the main event ending.

Additional road closures will be implemented throughout the week in areas such as Friedrichshain, Kreuzberg, Neukölln, Schöneberg, Steglitz, Wilmersdorf, and Zehlendorf. The inline skating event is scheduled for Saturday.

The traffic information centre has announced the closures and reopening times for the streets. After the main event ends, the streets will be gradually reopened. The organizers advise drivers to plan their journeys accordingly and to expect delays.

The Berlin Marathon, a much-anticipated event in the city's calendar, has been taking place since 1974, making it one of the oldest and most prestigious marathons in the world. For more information about the event, visit the official Berlin Marathon website.
