Construction of a multi-purpose court for mini-football and basketball set for installation on Sergei Akimov Street
News Article: "Kanavinsky District Residents Embrace Active Lifestyles with New Sports Facilities"
In the heart of Nizhny Novgorod's Kanavinsky District, a wave of excitement is sweeping through the community as new sports facilities are being introduced. This transformation is largely due to the "You Decide!" project, a participatory budgeting initiative that empowers local residents to shape their neighbourhood's development.
Empowering the Community through "You Decide!"
The "You Decide!" project allows residents to propose and vote on projects that improve their local area, with a significant focus on the development and renovation of sports facilities. This democratic approach ensures that the sports infrastructure funded reflects the community's priorities and needs.
A Boost for Healthy Living
Several sports facilities have already seen the light of day, including one at Gymnasium No. 2. This universal sports facility will feature goals for mini-football and basketball hoops, making it a versatile space for various activities. The facility will also be equipped with a rubberized surface and a fence with a gate for children's safety.
The renovation of two mini-hockey stadiums at the territories of Schools No. 176 and No. 181 has also been completed, ensuring a smoother and safer game for the young hockey enthusiasts.
Community-Led Improvements
The residents of the courtyard around School No. 168 have been actively involved in the "You Decide!" project, voting for the installation of a children's playground in 2024. Their efforts paid off, as a playground was installed near house No. 22 on Sergei Akimov Street.
Local resident Elizaveta Gracheva shared that they gathered over a thousand votes for the playground, demonstrating the strong community support for these projects.
A Bright Future for Sports in Kanavinsky District
Eight objects are planned for improvement in Kanavino this year, including the installation of goals and hoops on two sides of the court, and a fence and entrance gate around the perimeter of the sports facility at Gymnasium No. 50.
Artem Ivanov, head of the Kanavinsky District, and local residents have visited the site to check on the progress of the work. The first completed object this year was an automobile road from the Moscow Highway to SNT 'Yasnaya Polyana'.
The "You Decide!" project continues to empower the residents of the Kanavinsky District, fostering a sense of ownership and pride in their community. By actively participating in the decision-making process, residents are shaping a brighter future for sports and active living in their neighbourhood.
