Construction of a $200 million road connecting the central districts in Hung Yen commences
A Strategic Transport Corridor for Hung Yen: A 25-kilometer Road Project
The Vietnamese province of Hung Yen is set to embark on a significant infrastructure project, a 25-kilometer road connecting Thai Binh ward to the Hung Yen provincial center. This strategic transport route, scheduled to begin construction in 2025 and complete by 2028, carries a hefty investment of nearly VND5 trillion (over $190 million).
The project, a key one in completing transport infrastructure, promoting local socioeconomic development, and expanding regional connectivity, will be funded by local and central government budgets, as well as other legal sources. The route starts at the interchange between the road to TBS Song Tra Industrial Park and National Highway 10 in Thai Binh ward and ends at the start of the Luoc River overpass in Ngu Thien commune.
The road will include 8 bridges and 9 intersections, with significant funding allocated to compensation, support, and resettlement (over VND1 trillion), and construction costs (over VND3.2 trillion). The project aims to complete transport connectivity infrastructure, promote socio-economic development, and enhance regional connections by linking industrial parks, economic zones, and urban centers in Hung Yen.
The road is considered a key strategic corridor and is expected to open up new development spaces in the province by improving links to the capital Hanoi and expanding Hung Yen’s regional linkages. The road will help reduce traffic pressure on national highways 10 and 39, meeting inter-regional, inter-provincial, and inter-area transportation needs.
Hung Yen province is focusing on attracting high-tech and eco-friendly industries. The road project will complement connections between Thai Binh ward and Hanoi, linking the new Hung Yen centre with neighbouring localities and creating a new development corridor. The road project will also connect the Hanoi-Haiphong expressway with the Cau Gie-Ninh Binh expressway, and will be implemented in two phases.
Phase 1 of the project, with an investment of $149.4 million, will cover the stretch from the national highway 10 intersection to Dong Tu intersection. Phase 2, with an investment of $47.7 million, will continue from Dong Tu intersection to the right bank of the Luoc River.
The progress details emphasize the importance of site clearance and resettlement, as well as complex technical challenges such as terrain and soil conditions, though these relate more to connecting routes within the Thai Binh Economic Zone. The larger context includes strong corporate and foreign investment interest in the province, supported by infrastructure improvements like this road project, which will facilitate faster travel times between Hung Yen and Hanoi.
The strategic transport route in Hung Yen province not only aims to improve transport connectivity but also promotes the socioeconomic development of the region. This includes the enhancement of regional connections by linking industrial parks, economic zones, and urban centers through sports activities like cycling and running, fostering a healthier and active lifestyle in the province.
The new development corridor created by the road project in Hung Yen will provide improved links to the capital Hanoi, making it easier for athletes to participate in local and regional sports events, fostering a sense of community and promoting a sports-friendly culture.
