Construction firm COR offers larger contributions to Governor Cuomo than any other entity from Central New York.

In the political landscape of New York, the development company COR has been a significant contributor, particularly in the Syracuse region. Since Governor Andrew Cuomo was elected in 2010, COR has been his biggest contributor from the area, having donated over $300,000 to his campaigns.

On January 12, 2016, COR Development and several of its executives collectively donated $25,000 to Cuomo. This donation was made by COR Development subsidiary Clay South Development Co., COR's Julie Aiello, Joseph Gerardi, Steven F. Aiello, and two Executive Vice Presidents, Joe Girardi and Paul Joynt.

In more recent times, COR Development has continued to support Cuomo's campaigns. On August 24, 2022, COR Route 31 Co. LLC donated $25,000, and O'Brien & Gere Property Development Inc. donated $5,000. These contributions bring Cuomo's total from Central New Yorkers in the past 12 1/2 months to $110,445.

COR Development's contributions extend beyond financial support. The company has been instrumental in developing key projects in the state. In 2015, COR built a $15 million film hub for New York state on land it owns in DeWitt. Moreover, COR is currently developing the state's nanotechnology hub in DeWitt and Syracuse's Inner Harbor.

Notably, Cuomo announced that COR would also build a $90 million facility for Soraa, an LED lighting manufacturer, at the same nanotechnology hub.

However, COR's involvement in local projects has not been without controversy. The city of Syracuse is currently suing COR over tax breaks for the Inner Harbor project that the company obtained from Onondaga County's industrial development agency.

In addition to COR, other entities have also contributed to Cuomo's campaign. For instance, American Food & Vending Services donated $5,000 on April 7, 2016. Kimberly Boynton, CEO of Crouse Hospital, donated $10,000 on December 22. The Barclay Damon law firm donated $10,000 on October 8. New York State Council Sheet Metal Workers PAL donated $10,000 on October 11. Wayne A. Freeman, chief operating officer of Medical Answering Services, donated $5,445 on December 11.

As of a campaign finance report filed on Friday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo has $16 million in his campaign account. With significant contributions from entities like COR Development, it is clear that Cuomo continues to receive strong support from various sectors in New York.
