Get ready for a skyline change in Potsdam! On Monday, the construction begins on the tower top of Garnisonkirche Potsdam. This badass, copper, and stainless steel masterpiece will stand tall at a staggering 30 meters. The foundation revealed that it will be pre-fabricated beside the tower, with the final assembly set to happen later. The complete tower, complete with its cap, is likely to be ready by summer 2027.

Crane Capers: A 130-ton behemoth with a 75-meter hook height will be set up to facilitate the later assembly. The foundation also mentioned that gypsum models of capitals and ornaments will be crafted concurrently - pre-working for the copper sheeting fun.

Churchin' It Up: The democracy edu-church!The timeline for the tower cap's construction has been delayed due to a couple of review procedures by an unlucky bidder at the Federal Tender Chamber.

The reconstructed tower of the Garnisonkirche made its debut in the summer of 2024. This church aims high, serving as a platform for democracy education. The foundation hosts an exhibition tackling its dark past. The church, with its tower standing at 57 meters, offers a 360-degree birds-eye view over the city of Potsdam.

On March 21, 1933, the very first Reichstag post-National Socialist power grab was held in this very church in Potsdam. The inaugural "Day of Potsdam" had Adolf Hitler and President Paul von Hindenburg shaking hands in front of the Garnisonkirche, spawning controversy and criticism. Despite that, the rebuild project carries on, symbolizing the power of historical preservation and the increasingly vocal desire for democratic education.

Intriguing Facts:Construction of the Garnisonkirche began in 1730 under the watchful eye of Philipp Gerlach and Johann Friedrich Grael. The church served as the house of worship for the Prussian military garrison and was a symbol of military power and tradition. The iconic copper tower was an architectural highlight of the skyline.
