Hà Nội - In a pivotal move for Vietnam's political landscape, National Assembly (NA) Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn, also heading the recently constituted drafting committee for Constitutional amendments, oversaw the committee's inaugural meeting in Hà Nội on Monday.

The meeting saw Hoàng Thanh Tùng, Chairman of the NA's Committee for Legal and Judicial Affairs and a standing member of the drafting committee, presenting six key documents. These included draft proposals, plans, and operational strategies to shape the upcoming amendments.

The six proposed documents, now under the committee's jurisdiction, were unanimously approved following a consensus among committee members. The documents encompassed a resolution for Constitutional supplementations and amendments, a plan for collecting public feedback, the committee's working regulations, a resolution for member responsibilities, an operational plan for the committee, and a plan for upcoming meetings.

In his address, NA Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn underlined the importance of early and efficient constitutional updating, as per the instructions of Party General Secretary Tô Lâm. The amendments are crucial for forming a new legal foundation for restructuring the country's political system, giving this process a historical significance.

He emphasized the need for swift public consultation, engaging authorities, sectors, and citizens in the amendment process. The full draft resolution, along with accompanying documents, is set to be released for public comment on May 6 via official government, NA, and local authority portals, as well as major media outlets like VTV, VOV, and the VNA.

Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn called for increased and innovative public outreach, encouraging broad engagement and recognizing the high responsibility toward the Constitution's revision. He urged committee members to attend to public opinions and facilitate constructive discussions, ensuring harmony among government employees, Party members, and the public.
