Considering its comfort features and strong engine options, a pre-owned Ford Focus Estate emerges as an attractive selection for individuals who prefer towing capabilities combined with an estate car.

The Ford Focus Estate, first introduced in 1998, has been a common sight on UK roads for over two decades. This versatile car offers a roomy and comfortable cabin, making it an ideal choice for families.

The interior of a used Ford Focus Estate is generally spacious and practical, offering plenty of passenger space both front and rear. Passengers in the back have sufficient headroom and legroom for two people, unless they are very tall (around six feet or more). The rear space is comfortable, but taller passengers may find it a bit cramped.

The estate body style keeps practicality high, allowing easy loading and a versatile cabin. The Focus Estate has plenty of boot space, with 575 liters when the rear seat backrests are in position and 1653 liters when they’re folded flat, providing ample storage for family needs like storing a child’s pushchair or multiple suitcases.

The equipment and trim levels significantly impact the interior features. Basic trims may lack an infotainment touchscreen, while mid-level trims feature an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Higher trims add amenities such as automatic wipers, power-folding mirrors, sat-nav, front and rear parking sensors, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, and lumbar support for the passenger seat. Sportier ST-Line trims have sports-inspired interiors and suspension, while Titanium X upgrades include a heated steering wheel and electric driver’s seat. The top Vignale trim offers leather seats, adaptive LED headlights, a premium Bang & Olufsen sound system, and a head-up display.

The 1.0T EcoBoost Ford Focus Estate is a superbly finished towing option, providing competent towing and everyday driving. Its noseweight limit is 90kg and its 85% match is 1233kg, making it a good choice for towing a smaller caravan. The latest version of the Focus has moved with the times by phasing out diesel power and focusing on electric vehicles and SUVs.

The annual VED for the Ford Focus Estate is £195, and Ford provides a generous amount of standard equipment in the Ford Focus Estate, even in entry-level models. The insurance group of the Focus Estate is 16, and it has an average economy of 50.4mpg.

The Ford Focus Estate has had several recalls due to issues with brake pedal hinge bolts, clutch pressure plates, engine wiring looms, and rear doors opening when windows are lowered. It is important to check the vehicle's recall history before purchase. The full service cost for the Ford Focus Estate is £137 (supplied by Servicing Stop, 0844 324 5262).

The Škoda Octavia Estate is one of the best all-rounders, with a vast range of powerplants and usually good reliability. The Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer is a worthy rival to the Ford Focus Estate, with a step up in interior quality. The Titanium-spec car offers the best blend of useful kit and reasonably low price. The 2020 Ford Focus Estate (1.0T EcoBoost ST-Line) is priced at £12,690 with 39,000 miles, while the 2018 Ford Focus Estate (1.0T EcoBoost Zetec) is priced at £7490 with 77,800 miles. The 2023 Ford Focus Estate (1.0T EcoBoost ST-Line) is priced at £21,495 with 6000 miles.

In summary, a used Ford Focus Estate interior varies from basic and functional in lower trims to well-equipped and premium in higher-spec versions, always retaining good space and practicality typical of estates. It is an ideal choice for families looking for a spacious and practical car at a reasonable price.
