Consecration of the new choir organ in Münster Basilica scheduled for September 28
In the heart of Münster, a new musical chapter is unfolding. A significant change has taken place in the city's historic church, as a new organ, yet unnamed, has taken residence. This new addition, known as the "New" organ, has been the result of generous donations from various sponsors, patrons, and advertisers, including Jan Reiners, Franz Michael Reiners, Leo Voeßen, Stadtsparkasse Mönchengladbach, the Münster building association, and many others who have shown their support for the acquisition of this remarkable instrument.
The "New" organ, developed by Münster cantor Klaus Paulsen and Gladbach organ builder Martin Scholz, boasts an Italian concept, inspired by a historic organ from Vicenza. It may be small in size, but it is capable of filling the space with power and clarity. Vincent Knüppe, the incoming Münster cantor, has tested the organ and expressed his contentment with its versatility, stating that it offers many details and possibilities.
Klaus Paulsen, himself, has praised the sound quality of the "New" organ, noting its significant improvement over the previous organ. The organ seamlessly blends into the choir space, as noted by Charlotte Lorenz. A concert featuring both the "New" and the original organ is being planned, as announced by Anne Baus, chairwoman of the Münster building association.
The "Red Dragon" red choir organ, a long-term loan from the municipal music school, is no longer in the Münster. Since July, it has been in the care of an organ handler in Wuppertal. Antonius Bergmann, chairman of Stadtsparkasse Mönchengladbach, highlighted the heart and soul involved in the organ's acquisition, expressing gratitude to all those who contributed.
Vincent Knüppe, in his role as the incoming Münster cantor, has expressed his delight that church music in Münster is highly valued. The arrival of the "New" organ marks a new era for church music in the city, and its capabilities promise to enrich the musical landscape for years to come.
