Connor McDavid eyes Olympic gold after dominant NHL season ahead of 2026 Games

Connor McDavid is preparing for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina with a standout NHL season. The Edmonton Oilers star leads the scoring race and has been named to Canada’s preliminary Olympic roster. His focus is now on peaking in February when the Games begin.

McDavid was first selected for Canada’s Olympic team in June 2023, alongside five other players. His excitement has grown as the event nears, calling the Olympics 'real' now that the full roster is taking shape. He sees his performance with the Oilers as key to securing his spot on the final team.

His recent form has been dominant. A 13-game point streak—with 13 goals and 20 assists—highlights his consistency. Overall, he tops the NHL with 69 points (24 goals, 45 assists) in just 40 games. This surge comes ahead of a final 2023 matchup against the Boston Bruins. McDavid already has Olympic experience. He scored the overtime winner for Canada in the 4 Nations Face-Off championship in February 2023. The country’s men’s hockey team has also won gold in the last two Olympics featuring NHL players, adding to the pressure and expectation. Germany has also revealed its preliminary Olympic selections. Six players—Nico Sturm, Leon Draisaitl, Moritz Seider, Tim Stützle, Philipp Grubauer, and Lukas Reichel—are in contention for Milano Cortina.

The 2026 Winter Olympics will see McDavid aiming to add another gold medal to Canada’s recent success. His current form and leadership in the NHL suggest he will enter the tournament as a key player. The final roster decisions will come as teams prepare for the February competition.
