Connecticut's novel WNBA recruit, Paige Bueckers, clinches her second Rookie of the Month award consecutively.

Paige Bueckers Shines as Dallas Wings' Rising Star

In the midst of the Dallas Wings' 8-21 season, one player has stood out – rookie guard Paige Bueckers. The former UConn star continues to dazzle with her elite-level performances, earning her the title of the WNBA's frontrunner for Rookie of the Year.

Through 23 games, Bueckers has climbed into the Wings' top 10 for rookie totals in points, assists, and steals. She has demonstrated her versatility, contributing in various aspects of the game. Bueckers has moved past Sandy Brondello for third in Wings franchise history for 20-point games by a rookie, a testament to her scoring prowess.

In July alone, Bueckers recorded five games with 20 or more points, the most among rookies. This impressive run earned her the Rookie of the Month award for July, a title she has now held for two consecutive months. Bueckers averaged 18.2 points, 5.2 assists, and 1.8 steals per game during this period.

Bueckers' back-to-back Rookie of the Month honors have solidified her as the frontrunner in the WNBA Rookie of the Year conversation, distancing herself from competitors like Kiki Iriafen and Sonia Citron of the Washington Mystics.

Bueckers' impact is felt in critical moments, providing sparks, composed possessions, and crucial baskets for the Wings. She leads all WNBA rookies in scoring (18.3) and assists (5.5). On July 30, Bueckers tied WNBA legend Cynthia Cooper for the fastest player in league history to record 400 points and 100 assists, accomplishing the feat in just 22 games.

Bueckers' consistent performance this season underscores her status as the Dallas Wings' franchise centerpiece for the future. With several marquee matchups remaining, including a road rematch against the New York Liberty on Tuesday, fans can expect Bueckers to continue her impressive run.

Separately, it was reported that the Connecticut Sun have been sold to Steve Pagliuca, with potential plans for a move to Boston. This development could shake up the WNBA landscape, but for now, the focus remains on the rising star that is Paige Bueckers.
