Conflict Reporter or Battlefield Journalist
Martin Dorazin, a renowned Czech war correspondent, will be presenting his documentary "War Correspondent" at Ciné Utopia on April 29, as part of the CinEast Festival[1]. The film offers a unique insight into the life and work of one of the Czech Republic's most experienced war reporters.
The documentary, directed by David Čálek and Benjamin Tuček, and produced by Václav Flegl, centres on Dorazin himself. It highlights the importance of independent field reporting in combating manipulation and disinformation, while immersing viewers in the daily lives of ordinary people facing the enduring consequences of war.
Dorazin, who was appointed permanent correspondent in Ukraine in October 2022, has been a war correspondent for Czech Radio since 1990. He has covered conflicts around the world, including in Mariupol, where he left his post as a correspondent in Warsaw to go in January 2022.
The documentary has already garnered recognition, with Dorazin being awarded the Ferdinand Peroutka Prize for his journalistic work. The film also focuses on the theme of social resistance, making it a powerful and thought-provoking piece.
The screening will be followed by a round table discussion, co-organized by the Embassy of the Czech Republic, the Embassy of Ukraine, the Embassy of the Republic of Poland, the Member State presiding over the Council of the European Union, and the School of Public Affairs at Sciences Po Paris. The discussion will include H.E. Jaroslav KURFÜRST, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to France and Monaco, Jacques RUPNIK, Martin Dorazin, Oleg TCHACHENKO, and will be moderated by Martin BALUCHA.
This event is a rare opportunity for audiences to gain a deeper understanding of Dorazin's work and the challenges faced by war correspondents, as well as to engage in a discussion about the importance of independent journalism in today's world. The documentary film being screened has English subtitles, making it accessible to a wider audience.
