Conflict Continues: Film Regulators Demand Censorship of Unsuitable Remarks; Edits Explicit Content
War 2, the highly anticipated action-drama sequel, is set to hit theatres on August 14. The film stars Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR, and Kiara Advani in lead roles, and is produced by Yash Raj Films. Directed by Ayan Mukerji, War 2 is not a direct sequel to the original War, and does not feature Vaani Kapoor, who was in the original film.
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) requested changes in six places of War 2, including muting inappropriate references and removing an obscene gesture. Beyond the audio and visual cuts and removal of a 2-second "obscene" gesture and an "obscene" dialogue, the CBFC mandated specific changes in the film.
Nine seconds of sensual visuals, mostly related to Kiara Advani's bikini scenes in the song Aavan Jaavan, were edited out, reducing sensual images by 50% overall. Additionally, the film length was voluntarily cut down by the makers after these changes, reducing the runtime from approximately 2 hours 59 minutes 49 seconds to about 2 hours 51 minutes 44 seconds.
Hrithik Roshan is reprising his role as Major Kabir Dhaliwal in War 2, while Jr NTR is playing Vikram. Kiara Advani will be seen as Kavya Luthra. The changes made in War 2 led to it being passed with a U/A 16+ certificate on August 6.
It's worth noting that War 2 is Ayan Mukerji's first collaboration with Yash Raj Films. The main focus of CBFC's edits was on reducing sensual content, muting inappropriate references, and correcting offensive gestures and dialogues. The action sequences were not affected by these changes.
The team initially submitted War 2 with a runtime of 179.49 minutes, but voluntarily reduced it to 171.44 minutes two days after the initial submission. War 2 promises to be an action-packed drama that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats.
